Last night, Scott, Rich, Carrie, Cake, and I were all at The New Pornographers in Lancaster for the 6pm show. Stars started the show super early to make way for a lame local act who played way too long before the pornographers. The band was great, even without Neko Case and Dan Bejar with them, Carl’s niece handled the female vocals well and the drummer did Dan’s part successfully. They played all of their hits, except for one of my favorites “The Mary Martin Show,” in a really long set. Scott, Carrie, and I rushed back to make a train for Scott and Carrie and I picked up Willis to get up to Fredonia. We got to the studio about 7am, in time to get some sleep and watch some of the mixing happen.
Things are going well so far. One song has been mixed and two more are underway at the moment. I met Oliver for the first time and he’s able to be here after relocating from DC to Brooklyn. It’s a pretty crowded house, but a lot of fun. Mary Fridmann stopped by the studio with their two sons and we’re planning for a bit of a bbq/badminton break in a few minutes. Carrie is whipping up some vegan friendly goodness to share and Matthew will be manning the grill.
Ben Volta is working on the Saxon Shore artwork and we’ve been talking a lot about plans for the record and touring. It’s been pretty busy and we’re all getting pretty excited about everything. Over the next few days, there will be streaming songs on the Saxon Shore myspace page Saxon Shore myspace page. The final master should be done by the end of the week, right before I head off to Amsterdam for a few days of vacation to visit all of my friends there. It’s been almost a year since I was last in Europe and I’ve missed it.
