I ended up not going to the Khyber to see U.S. Maple last night. I’ve seen them twice before and weeknight Khyber shows traditionally have the headliner (band you want to see) going on at 11:30 or midnight. No one would go with me either. It would have been a pathetically lonely late night in the cold. So, instead, I cracked open a copy of the vinyl version of their latest album, Purple on time, and listened to it sing its thick 180g virgin vinyl love to me. I’ve been a fan ever since Andy convinced me to take their Talker album for a ride and saw them rock outdoors in the hot sun one day and their latest album does not disappoint. It is perhaps the most cohesive and easy to listen to release thus far with their madd skillz well-honed. I also got addicted to tapetrader.com hoping to find people to swap bootlegs with and almost finished reading Michael Moore’s Dude, Where’s My Country? book.
Oh yeah, I’ve also been listening to the new 7″ from Brother Danielson. This thing is amazing and it’s just 2 songs, the A side being a Royal Trux cover, the B side being an original. It’s foreshadow to the greatness that will come in March in the form of a proper full-length release. I have no shame in proudly saying I love anything that comes from the Danielson camp and this is a top notch effort that your turntable is craving.
