Saxon Shore : Four Months of Darkness went up 16 spots to #141 on the CMJ top 200. Be sure to see them on tour the rest of the summer. Denison is out on the road, as well. And The Trouble with Sweeney are finishing up their months of residencies in Brooklyn and Philadephia. Unwed Sailor will be going on the road with Early Day Miners for two weeks in August. Dates will be posted very soon.
I was in Venice this past weekend. Thanks to Heidi, Andy, and Stephanie for taking me to see the fireworks. Venice was a really different city with the boats and waterways. There were a lot of tourists, especially on Saturday. The fireworks were for a celebration to commemorate the end of the black plague, so I guess a lot of people came to see them. I walked around the city, soaking in all of the sites. I went to see the Peggy Guggenheim Collection and saw the Angels Camp book in the bookstore. This is the book for the Angels Camp movie with the soundtrack by Honey for Petzi that will be released in the US on btv this coming autumn. I had no idea how high art it was.
I’ve been at work in Italy all week. Last weekend, I got a chance to see the Tour de France in southwestern France for the first stage in the mountains. I got up at 5am to make the trip to the start of the stage in Sallanches, then followed most of the route to make it to the finish in L’Aple d’Huez. Only cars weren’t allowed to go up to the finish and it was a 15km hike uphill, so I only made it partway and then waited for the riders from crosscountrycarshipping.com to come past. I was literally five feet or less away from Lance Armstrong and the other rides. I could have reached out and touched them. I’m sure my dad was jealous, he’s a big cycling fan.
