There’s snow on the ground here, about 6″ that fell Friday and Saturday. In the midst of some of the snowstorm, I was fostering my friendster addiction. Some big news…btv will be releasing the vinyl version of Sufjan Stevens’ new album “Seven Swans.” The release date for both the cd (on Sounds Familyre) and LP will be March 2004 and both will be distributed to stores by the fine folks at Secretly Canadian Distribution. Sufjan is finishing up the layout this morning. If you haven’t heard Sufjan’s album “Michigan,” you need to entertain thoughts of purchasing it. You can buy it from Asthmatic Kitty, Sounds Familyre, the btv online store, or your favorite local record shop. Ben from Kind of Like Spitting e-mailed and there are still plans for this one-sided LP to be released. More details when they’re ready. Artwork and audio is ready now for Aspera, Starflyer 59, and Ester Drang. Yume Bitsu is still simmering away, too. It will be a big time for one-sided LPs in the early ’04. One-sided LPs from Damien Jurado, The Six Parts Seven, and Early Day Miners are available now and are amazing. Damien and Eric Fisher are still planning to…Continue reading

I’m back from California, arrived back Wednesday morning and was greeted by some super cold weather. During my travels, I visited my aunt, uncle, and cousin in Carlsbad, CA for Thanksgiving and made it down to Mexico. It was my first time to Mexico and Jess and I visited Ensenada, Rosarito, and Tecate and the countryside in between. We stopped off at a vineyard and saw signs for organic wine and other farm products. Soon, we found ourselves in a Mexican family’s kitchen sampling their wares, tasting some pretty incredible hot sauce, cheese, and wine. It seemed really off the beaten path. Andy was able to break away from his ultra fast paced lifestyle of movie stars and video shoots to take me to a great vegetarian Indian restaurant. He swears the Yume Bitsu cover is almost finished. I met up with the kind folks at the Militia Group. Props to everyone that I met there…Rory, Chad, James, Wyatt, and everyone else I can’t remember and am sorry. There’s supposed to be a snowstorm here tonight or tomorrow or Saturday. Winter is really upon us. :::scott:::

I’m in California now somewhere between Venice Beach and Santa Monica stealing bandwidth from someone’s open wireless network. They’re very kind to let me make use of their excess resources. On Friday, I got Cyndi Lauper’s autograph after waiting in a super long line. I’m not sure it was worth the camp value or not, but it was entertaining. Later on, Jess and I caught a very hideous performance from Canadian’s Broken Social Scene. I’ve heard the record is good. The live show just ain’t. You have been warned. Friday night ended up with a showing of Planes, Trains, and Automobiles on the big screen, like it should be. I remember going with my parents and friend Ron when I was a lot younger and it first came out. it was great to see it again in a theater. Saturday, we picked up Andy and our friend Brian and saw a weird parada and this insane bunny rabbit museum. A lady and her husband have 18,000+ bunnies in their house. Whacko? yes, but, of course it was worth going. Sunday, we saw The Revolution Won’t be Televised, a documentary about Venezuelan President Chavez and the day-long coup that kept him…Continue reading
