Last night, I met up with a few friends- Willis, Lauren, Matthew, Ethan, and Courtney – to see Damien Jurado with Richard Buckner and Dolorean. It’s always good to hang with my friends in Philadelphia and always good to watch friends play. Josh Tillman, of Saxon Shore fame, was playing with both Damien and Dolorean. Since he lives in Seattle, it’s been a while since I’ve talked to him. Damien’s set was one of the best I’d seen, mixing more of his somber songs with several of his more rocking songs. I encourage you to see the tour if you get the chance. By the way, my friend Ethan did the artwork for This Fabulous Century which is a completely amazing collage of a bunch of Damien photos we found and the B side artwork made its way onto a t-shirt. Check out both the LP and shirt, they look great.
Tonight, BTV showcase night at CMJ. Saxon Shore starts at 8pm and will be without drummer since Josh is on tour with Damien, but the more electronic version will be showcased. Joey Sweeney and the Forevertakers will be playing at 9pm. The Trouble with Sweeney is on a bit of a hiatus, but Joey and some friends, including Charlie Hall from the trouble will be playing as Joey Sweeney and the Forevertakers. It’s all for you at Alphabet Lounge 104 Avenue C (@ 7th Street), 212.780.0202. CMJ attendees, stop by and get in with your badge, $8 for everyone else. See you there, stop by and say hello.

I’m back from Singapore, a little out of it from the flight and time difference, but glad to be home.

Unfortunately, the Dodgers didn’t have enough to overpower the Cardinals and make it to the NLCS. I guess it’s on to rooting against the Yankees and waiting for next season.
I’m back from Borneo. Some friends and I took a short trip out into the jungle overnight, long enough to see a few interesting things and at least feel exotic. Maybe I’ll go back for a longer trip another time.
This Saturday, the btv CMJ showcase is at the Alphabet Lounge, 104 Avenue C in New York. The Trouble with Sweeney and Saxon Shore will both be playing. I hope to see you there.
I’ll be back in Philadelphia in time for Damien Jurado’s show on Friday and I should have copies of This Fabulous Century LPs for him to sell on tour if everything has gone right at the record plant.
