Bosque Brown was included in a list of 20 bands that you need to hear.
Unwed Sailor are rocking the West Coast. Check them out when they’re in your town. cd versions of The White Ox are now done and will be out to retail stores for a 17 October release date. The band will have some copies with them on the road until they run out, so there’s some extra incentive. The White Ox picks up where The Marionette and the Music Box left off, but washes the new songs in an ambient Eno/Lanois production quality from producer Dan Burton (Early Day Miners, Ativin). There are some surprises, with Burton and Johnathon Ford providing vocals on “Gila” and Burton again providing vocals on “Numbers”. The band has played some of these songs live, including “Pelican” which Johnathon would sing lyrics to, but “Pelican” now has pennywhistle melodies and an accordion accompaniment. There are definitely some hints of Native American imagery, something that has always influenced Johnathon since his Oklahoma upbringing, which is shown in the spaciousness of the record, culminating in the birdlike pennywhistle sounds of “Pelican.” UK artist James Marsh again provides the artwork for The White Ox and is a set with the cover image from Circles, both of which tie back to the ambience and Native American imagery. But, longtime fans can still hear the magic that makes up Unwed Sailor from Firecracker to The Faithful Anchor to the Stateless collaboration with Early Day Miners to The Marionette and the Music Box. Unwed Sailor has never been content to re-make the same record with each release and both Circles and The White Ox are no exception.
