Denison Witmer was #138 on the CMJ top 200 this week, up 61 spots. Thanks to everyone at college radio for playing Philadelphia Songs. There’s also a great review of Philadelphia Songs in the new issue of the Philadelphia City Paper. The Trouble with Sweeney have decided to cancel their autumn tour. Joey and Reyna just bought a new house that apparently has land deed to another property. In any case, lots of troubles to sort out and an overly hectic month ahead of them. The band will hopefully pick back up on most of the same dates in January and February 2003. Ester Drang’s Goldenwest will be released in Europe by Swiss label Gentlemen Records in November. The band is also going into the studio in November to record their full-length. It looks like things are set for an 11 March release date now. Speaking of release dates, the Early Day Miners one-sided LP will be released on 4 February to stores and the Aspera one-sided LP will be released on 4 March to stores, both through Secretly Canadian distribution. I received the Early Day Miners one-sided LP audio this weekend, so this may be the next LP in the series. There is still the question of artwork, but that’s underway, as far as I know. Aspera is slightly delayed since they are working for their folllow up to Sugared and Feathered for Jagjaguwar and are trying to get the album finished in time for the planned January 2003 release. The one-sided LP will most likely come out a little after the full-length. My parents saw Denison play on Saturday in Indiana. He was playing a few minutes from my actual boyhood home. Maybe some day there will be a marker there, along with a museum, much like there is for James Dean in nearby Fairmount, IN. The Dodgers are still hanging in the wild card race, but they still have some ground to make up on the Giants if there is any hope for post-season play. I’m still trying to be optimistic. :::scott:::
Things are extremely hectic here with all of the new records getting ready to go out to stores. Unwed Sailor’s The Faithful Anchor will be distributed by Redeye through btv on 27 August. Circle of Birds cdep and Denison Witmer : River Bends cdep will both go to stores on 10 September. Final packaging designs for Denison’s Philadelphia Songs continue. All American Radio’s artwork is nearly complete. Lots of touring this fall from Denison, The Trouble with Sweeney, Ester Drang, and All American Radio. Tonight, I’ll be at the Khyber to see AM/FM and the Radar Brothers. Progress is being made by AM/FM and Aspera on one-sided LPs. I’ve heard from both this week, so I’m still excited for early autumn releases for these. :::scott:::
