Ethan and Courtney are getting married tomorrow. I’m up for a big party. After that, Jess and I are meeting up with Dave and others to see the Pixies. Let’s see if these old timers live up to the hype and are good in spite of being out for a cash grab. Tonight, we’re going to try out a weird new store that sells mix and match cereal. ceriously. The new btv shirts (maroon, gold, forest green) will be in stock on Monday, along with all of the back stock and more pink shirts that were very popular. Bosque Brown Plays Mara Lee Miller is being made right now, along with a repress of Saxon Shore : Four Months of Darkness and the btv re-issue of Saxon’s : Be A Bright Blue in a slick redesigned digipak. I went to see a symposium on Howard Finster at Lehigh University on Friday which featured a lot of annoying insider self-appreciation from professors and gallery owners, but enough of Howard to make it tolerable. A documentary in the rough was unveiled, featuring his last interview before he died and a spot on the Tonight Show, showing this man of Visions at his best. There are 3 spots at the University showing off a wide variety of his work. If you’re in the area at all, be sure to stop by. Joey Sweeney and pals are up to some new trouble at this new website, Phiebrity. Jess, Willis, and I saw Old Canes rock out in the Unitarian Church Basement last night to a small crowd, but a soundsystem to accomodate 500. Chris from Appleseed Cast delivers the good with the live set and on the album Early Morning Hymns. Saxon Shore are finishing up The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore and readying a re-issue of their Be A Bright Blue debut. More on release dates once they’re known. Thanks to everyone who came out to the BTV showcase at CMJ last night, especially Al and Tim from The Six Parts Seven. Saxon Shore debuted a set without a live drummer or recorded drum tracks, bringing in the ambient wall of guitar sound, but also maintaining the Saxon Shore melodic style. Joey Sweeney and the Forevertakers re-interpreted a Trouble with Sweeney song and offered up a few new songs that they’ve been working on as they move separately in a direction of ’70s AM radio pop. I rode up with Matthew, Carrie, Willis, and Lauren and we later met up with Jess. Matthew and Willis were 2/3 of Saxon Shore last night and seemed to be having a great time of it. We tracked down the supposed best falafel on the east coast and made a stop at Two Boots pizza to get a slice of Bayou Beast, at least that’s what I got and seem to always get. Love to get the spicy sausage/crawdad combo on my pizza. :::scott:::
