Mara finished the recording of her one-sided LP yesterday with Matt Pence. I'm excited to hear the masters. She's working on finishing up the artwork and design for the B side etching.
Damien is coming to visit?! I'm excited. Can't wait.

Mara is entering the studio to record songs for her Bosque Brown one-sided LP with Matt Pence (Centro-Matic, Son Volt, Will Johnson, South San Gabriel). It's going to be the first all analog release for btv, being mixed to tape and lacquers cut directly from the tape mixes. I believe it's just going to be her and her guitar, but we'll see what comes out of the sessions.

There was a little gathering to welcome back Matt and Willis from tour last night. They're been out rocking with Saxon Shore for several weeks and it had been a long time since we'd all gotten together. It was good to get everyone out to my house and pass around the oh-so-scary-but-strangely-tasty Jones' soda Holiday Pack. It went well with popcorn, though.
Jessica and I saw the new Harry Potter movie. It was a little disappointing because I'd read the Goblet of Fire and knew some of the subtle details that were left out. It was still a lot of fun, though. I attempted to become a shredding master on Playstation while Jess, Siri, and I played Jason's Guitar Hero video game. It didn't quite happen. Jess got addicted to We Love Katamari and spent a long time playing. We got to hang out with Johnathon on Friday a couple of times and Johnathon and I finished up the design for The White Ox and Circles. Unwed Sailor are resuming their touring on Monday night, so go see them in the last few days.
I've been listening to much Johnny Cash the past couple of days including the 7 disc Sun Records box set and the Legend 4 disc box set. I just can't get enough.

I met up with Unwed Sailor last night for their set at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago and it was great to see them rock. They're off until Monday and then back on the road well into December. Be sure to see them play.
Jessica and I saw Walk the Line with Andrew and Sharon and their temporary housemate Matt. I was definitely blown away by Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash. He definitely had the sneer and mannerisms down and did a great job singing many of the songs. Reese Witherspoon was good as a spunky June Carter and the movie really concentrated on their relationship. Highly recommended.
Happy Thanksgiving!!

I'll be at the Unwed Sailor show at the Beat Kitchen in Chicago tonight. It starts at 6. See you there for the rock. Hopefully Johnathan and I will finalize the layouts for The White Ox full-length and Circles ep.

Saxon Shore finished up their 7 week tour last night in Brooklyn.
Unwed Sailor are still on the road for a few more weeks. There's a short feature in this week's Omaha World Herald on the band. Be sure to see them when they play in a city near you.

The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore is #77 on the CMJ top 200, its fifth week on the charts. Thanks to all of the stations playing this record. The Saxons are winding down their tour and are in their final week of shows. My parents were out for their set with Anathallo in North Manchester, IN, they're cool like that. I think my dad just likes to talk baseball with everyone.
Unwed Sailor are continuing on their tour. They take a break around Thanksigivng, but are set to rock well into December. Go out and see them play.
Jessica and I saw Michael Chapman with Jack Rose and The Mountains of Mata Llama last night at Circle East. Props to Adam for another great show. Jack Rose's instrumental guitar playing is incredible and he draws from early americana, blues, and ragtime. Michael Chapman is an incredible guitarist who entered the British folk scene in the late '60s. He's been overlooked for many years and was in the US for a few different festivals. His guitar playing was impeccable, maybe even some of the best I've ever seen. His set had many long instrumental stretches that ebbed into an almost experimental territory, including one written for his friend John Fahey.
I just found out that an old friend, Dwight Ozard, died late Monday afternoon after a very long bout with cancer. He was once the editor of Prism magazine and director of public affairs for Habitat for Humanity. He also attended shows that I put on years ago at my university. We will miss him...

The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore is #75 on the CMJ top 200, their 4th week on the charts. Thanks to all of the stations who are playing this album.
I got to see Saxon Shore with Anathallo and Owen in Chicago while visiting Jess. Things seem to be going well and they've definitely been honing their craft. They were super tight. Thanks to everyone who has come out in support of Saxon Shore. They're out with Anathallo for a little while longer and wrap up their tour in Brooklyn on 21 November. I went to visit Hot Doug's twice during my visit, once with Siri and once with the Saxons. The special gourmet dog of the week was a pheasant sausage with cognac and some fancy French cheese. It was completely delicious. Jess and I also went to see Styrofoam and Alias play. It was a rainy night and the show was completely in the middle of nowhere so we got really wet on the way to the train home. But, it was a good show, especially for the first night of the tour.
There are lots of things underway with Burnt Toast Vinyl for Japan. Most of the back catalog will soon be available.
Rich is visiting this weekend and arrived earlier today. Jessica is landing tomorrow and staying for a long weekend. We're supposed to be off to see Nathan and Norma's new son on Sunday and will be celebrating Matt and Emily's son's first birthday on Saturday.
I have to say that when I listened to Vashti Bunyan's Lookaftering I was super impressed, but it didn't prepare for the amazingness that is her 1970 album Just Another Diamond Day. The vinyl version is super sweet with a gatefold cover and a bonus 7". Wow!
Thanks to Ethan for the Earth and Pelt action. I wish I could go see that show with you all...

I finally made it to Chicago after missing one of the trains to the airport because my first train was late. I made it to the airport 30 minutes before my flight and got stopped by security because the microphone I use with my minidisc recorder looked like dynamite. So, I ran to my gate just in time to make the flight.
Tonight, Jessica and I are going to see Styrofoam play. Monday night is Saxon Shore with Anathallo. See you there...
