Last night, Jess and I met up with Erik and Gloria at The Map Room which proved to be far superior to the previous night's escapades at Hop Leaf. Not only did they have Westvleteren on their menu, they had it available for a lower price and the bartenders were much, much, much friendlier. Chicago, this is your place to go. Lucas and Lodewijk, I had the legendary Westvleteren!! You are jealous!
Erik and I were talking a bit about some plans to release Starflyer 59 vinyl, more information once we have things figured out.
Erik was at CMJ beause he does radio for Thrill Jockey and it reminded me that while I was waiting to meet with our distributor, Redeye, my friend Wes just walked down the street. I hadn't seen him in about a year. Anyhow, it was a really weird coincidence that I was standing on the street and he was just walking by on the way to another CMJ event. He works for Barsuk now in Seattle which explains his CMJ attendance.

I need to make an entry to keep Ben entertained. My apologies for being so busy. I'm in this training class for work and the instructor is some kind of slave driver. He just came to the computer terminal to lay a guilt trip on me for typing this instead of listening to him read from the training manual. I've been a commuter riding from Chicago out to Schaumburg and back each day which has allowed me to get ahead on my reading. I finished the new Nick Hornby which was solid, but not amazing and am in the middle of the new Zadie Smith which is shaping out to be a lot better than Autograph Man.
Jessica, Andrew, Sharon and I went to the Hopleaf last night for a book reading. The bartender was super condescending when I was asking about the fact that they had Westvletern written both on their chalkboard and menu, didn't have any in stock, but insisted that they did get tons of the stuff. The rarest of Trappists that you can't even find in Belgium? I'm still in disbelief. Back me up Lucas...

Tonight's Saxon Shore Philadelphia listening party at the Khyber is now a house show at 38th and Baring Street, 326 N. 38th Street to be exact, on the southwest corner of the intersection. Philly kids, come out and give the Saxons a proper send off and hear the new record before the rest of the world. The Brooklyn listening party and in-store rock will still be at Soundfix.
We're going to see the Cubs play tonight in the bleachers and I'm excited.
We had an amazing peanut butter and pirates party on Saturday combining the celebration of Talk Like a Pirate Day with an excuse to try a million kinds of weird peanut butter. It was also an excuse to inflict vigilante justice on a parrot pinata filled with candy.
Before I forget, happy birthday to Scott!

Mara e-mailed me the link to this story about Bosque Brown in the Dallas Observer from earlier in the month.
Test pressings for the LP version of The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore have arrived. LP jackets and a new batch of cds to support touring and fill orders will be arriving in a week or so, if all goes well.
I'm off to Chicago for a week or so tomorrow, but all mail orders should be caught up and will resume when I return.

Apparently some people think there isn't enough updating action happening here, as of late. Those people have a name and it's Ben Volta.
Anyhow, there are a few updated Saxon Shore dates on the show listing page and more updates are pending after a few more of the missing shows are confirmed. I spend a large part of last night writing show information on posters and getting them sent out to all of the venues.
The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore is available from insound at the moment and will be added to the btv site shortly.
Dates for the Unwed Sailor tour in November will be added as soon as they are confirmed, as well.

I'm back from CMJ. Bosque Brown played an amazing set and it was a lot of fun getting to meet everyone in person and hang out a bit. I also got to meet Sean and Melissa who did the album artwork. I also realized that for two years I've been saying Bosque Brown wrong. Apparently, the Bosque River is in Texas and where the name comes from. The river is pronounced as Bosky, so the band name should be pronounced similarly. Anyhow, Bosque Brown is great no matter how you say it.
The Unwed Sailor album, The White Ox, and ep, Circles, are on their way to be mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side.
I've been mailing out posters for the Saxon Shore tour. They're gearing up to go in about a week, should be pretty monumental.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see Bosque Brown in Philadelphia last night. It was the first time that I was able to see them play and was completely impressed. When the drums kicked in for "Still Afraid", I felt chills down my spine. Thanks to Willis and Matthew for doing their ambient set as Soporus and to Mike for some great projections.
I'll be up at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC for their CMJ show tonight. Apparently it's a free show. I'll see you there.

I've posted a few new Unwed Sailor dates for their November touring. In late Winter 2006, there will be two Unwed Sailor releases: The White Ox full-length and Circles ep. They will be available separately as cd versions and together as a combined 2xLP release.

Scott, Willis, Mike, and I attempted to sail from the Eastern Shore to Baltimore on Saturday and Sunday, but there wasn't enough wind to make it. We kept with our trip plans and slept on the boat after a Maryland crab dinner and were able to sail a bit more on Sunday to make up for our disappointing Saturday. After we got back, a few of us met up with Ethan to wish him a happy birthday. Speaking of birthdays, my parents got me one of those cool new Mac Mighty Mouses and I'm loving the trackball and ability to right click. Very nice.
A bunch of us went to see Sigur Ros on Friday night. Andy Bruntel is back to visit for a couple of weeks and he came out for the show. The band played most of the songs on Takk and a few older things, but not many. The sound was great, but too quiet. I wanted my ears to bleed from the massiveness of the sound.
Friends from mewithoutyou and Circle of Hope East are en route to Louisiana to pick up a bus load of refugees in their tour bus and take them to Philadelphia, New York, and Alabama. Whut?! How amazing is that? Plus their diesel bus has been modified to runs on cooking oil.
New dates are up for Saxon Shore touring in October and November, as well as one new date in November for Unwed Sailor and Bosque Brown.

It's been a little while since I've given an update, but things have been very hectic. I'm sorry to have neglected you, especially Ben, and want to wish a happy birthday to Ethan. I had an amazing trip to see Jessica in Chicago. My parents came up to visit and we painted the town red including a visit to Hot Doug's where I had a deerlicious venison/blueberry sausage. Incredible. Ms. Gockley and I also took a canoe trip on the river through downtown Chicago. Thanks to everyone for hanging out: Siri, The Hortons, Coffman, J.D., Christopher, Trevor, and all of the new people I met.
I've been busy coordinating some details for the upcoming Saxon Shore release to get the LP jackets printed as quickly as possible. Posters and postcards have arrived for The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore and everything is in place for the 18 October release date. The band is filling up dates for their October/November tour and dates will be announced shortly.
Tonight, I'm going to see Sigur Ros at the Tower Theater with Willis and others and am pretty excited. Will had to figure out how to beat the exorbitant Ticketmaster fees and he was able to shave a bit off the cost. The Ticketmaster/Clear Channel double play is pretty ugly for these prices.
Bosque Brown is going to be in Philadelphia next Thursday and then at CMJ in NYC on Friday. Come on out east coast friends and fans. This will be my first time to meet everyone in person and I'm very excited. I'm trying to talk Willis and Matthew into playing at the show on Thursday...you know you want to guys...
