I was in Maryland to watch the Indiana/Oklahoma NCAA basketball game. To the delight of the room full of Indiana natives, Indiana beat Oklahoma to make it to the NCAA finals. There was much rejoicing. I'll be watching on Monday hoping Indiana wins it all. Today was the official start of the baseball season...indie rockers everywhere are secret (or not-so-secret) baseball fans. It's true. Denison will be back in Philadelphia later this week to work on the recording of additional instrumentation and mixing for his Philadelphia Songs album. Hopefully, you got to see Denison with The Six Parts Seven on the tour. The Six Parts Seven are an amazing band, be sure to get their new album out now on Suicide Squeeze, available in the on-line store. :::scott:::

Don't forget to see Denison Witmer play the final dates of his tour with The Six Parts Seven. I'll be at the shows in Brooklyn (Wed) and Lancaster (Fri). Saturday is The Six Parts Seven cd release party show in their hometown area in Cleveland, OH at the Grog Shop. I'm sure that will be an exciting show. The Trouble with Sweeney is doing a short little mini-tour this weekend up and down the East Coast. Be sure to check them out as they play with True Love Always (Teenbeat). All Jetenderpaul 7" pre-orders have been mailed out, so look for yours. It should be worth the long wait. Though Jeff from the Drang, who happens to go to Oklahoma, differs in opinion, I'm still rooting for the Indiana Hoosiers to make it to the NCAA finals. The official start of baseball season is just moments away, hopefully I'll run into some of you at Philadelphia's opening game next Friday. :::scott:::

Last night was very exciting for a couple of reasons... Jetenderpaul : A Causalty Too Serious To Afford 7" finally arrived from Norway after months and months and months of waiting. Pre-orders will be going out on Monday and Tuesday. And, Indiana beat Kent State to make it to the Final Four in NCAA basketball. I also got to see Kind of Like Spitting play a special late afternoon set at The Fire. Tonight, Denison Witmer and The Six Parts Seven will be playing The Fire at 9pm. Hope to see you there. It will be amazing! :::scott:::

The big excitement for this evening for me was watching the Indiana Hoosiers beat Duke in the last minutes of play in their sweet 16 NCAA tournament game. Being an Indiana native, my pride was in full-force. Denison will be playing in Philadelphia on Sunday, 24 March at the Fire, 4th and Girard, with The Six Parts Seven. Make sure you're there if you're in the area. I'm back from a short trip to Florida. Matt, Cake, and I saw 4 spring training baseball games, catching the Dodgers, Red Sox, and Phillies at home and the Phillies at the Blue Jays' park. Aside from thoroughly despising traffic between Tampa and Orlando and my speeding ticket on the way to the airport, the trip was an amazing success. We saw Denison play two shows with the Six Parts Seven who are a great live band and great people to hang out with. The show in Tampa was at the New World Brewery, one of our favorite spots in all of Florida, and the show in Orlando was at the Stardust, perhaps one of the best video rental/coffee shops I've ever experienced. We also had the chance to meet up with Randall from Jetenderpaul in Gainesville who showed us the hot sites in the town and some mean Florida alligators. :::scott:::

Denison Witmer : Of Joy & Sorrow was #20 on the CMJ Add list. Thanks to all of the stations that are playing this cd. Our good friend Douglas Witmer (and brother of Denison) is an amazing painter: Douglas Witmer : Recent Paintings, April 1-27, 2002 Reception: First Friday, April 5, 6:00-8:00 pm The Peng Gallery presents recent work by Philadelphia artist Douglas Witmer. The exhibition runs from April 1-27, 2002, with a First Friday artist's reception on April 5 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Witmer's large-scale works take their cues as much from early Renaissance devotional panels as they do from high Modernist color-field painting. Pared down to simple shapes, his abstract compositions create sensations of architectural spaces receding away from the viewer. They may evoke images such as rooms, doors, and stairs; or ideas of dwelling or passage. But through the choice of color and an emphasis on the physicality of contrasting surfaces, they are painted in such a way so as to make any illusion fail easily. Despite their bold and sometimes imposing design, this flip-flopping spatial activity plays with the viewer's perspective, inviting a process of inquiry into the nature and meaning of painted "reality." Douglas Witmer holds an M.F.A. from The Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and a B.A. from Goshen (IN) College. In addition to the Academy, his work has recently been exhibited at Philadelphia's Art in City Hall, Miami University of Ohio, the Allentown Art Museum, Lebanon Valley College, and the Central Market Gallery in Lancaster, PA. The Peng Gallery is located at 35 South 3rd Street in Philadelphia, and shows work by international contemporary artists. It is open Fridays and Saturdays, 12-6 pm and by appointment. Call 215-629-5889 or visit www.penggallery.com for more information.
