I went to see a symposium on Howard Finster at Lehigh University on Friday which featured a lot of annoying insider self-appreciation from professors and gallery owners, but enough of Howard to make it tolerable. A documentary in the rough was unveiled, featuring his last interview before he died and a spot on the Tonight Show, showing this man of Visions at his best. There are 3 spots at the University showing off a wide variety of his work. If you’re in the area at all, be sure to stop by.
Joey Sweeney and pals are up to some new trouble at this new website, Phiebrity. Jess, Willis, and I saw Old Canes rock out in the Unitarian Church Basement last night to a small crowd, but a soundsystem to accomodate 500. Chris from Appleseed Cast delivers the good with the live set and on the album Early Morning Hymns.
Saxon Shore are finishing up The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore and readying a re-issue of their Be A Bright Blue debut. More on release dates once they’re known.
Sufjan Stevens is playing at the Philadelphia Ethical Society this Thursday and is on tour, be sure to see him and wave to Denison Witmer who’s playing in his band. Starflyer 59 will be playing in Philadelphia on Saturday with Pedro the Lion and I’m hoping their one-sided LP will be done in time. Test pressings were wrong and had to be re-done, I’m hoping the new set is at my house today.
Also, for those interested in Damien Jurado’s This Fabulous Century on white vinyl, these are nearly gone from btv and will soon be sent out as black vinyl. Ya snooze, ya lose. The record still sounds great no matter what color the vinyl is.

I’m back from Thailand for another week in Singapore. I was in Hat Yai, a fairly large city, and Songkhla, a sleepy little beach town just outside. Today, I’m happy because I just found out that the Dodgers won their division and will be in the playoffs for the first time since 1996. Go LA!
Jason Martin found the master to the Starflyer 59 one-sided LP and this will be mastered this week. LPs will be ready in time for their tour with Pedro the Lion and pre-orders will ship as soon as possible once the vinyl is back from the factory.
By the way, Mikael came across these words about the Mt. Eerie : Live in Copenhagen 3xLP. I found this brief article of note from the WKDU Communique where I was once a DJ way back in the day. It makes us happy to find that people are enjoying the set as much as we have. I hope there are more out there enjoying the vinyl, too.
For those interested, I was 9th in the Burnt Toast Vinyl fantasy baseball league. Willis took the prize.

For those out there awaiting the Starflyer 59 one-sided vinyl release, the audio plates are somehow missing and need to be re-done. This is finally happening in the next few days and is the last part of the release. I have boxes of covers sitting in my house, the etching and labels have been sitting at the factory for months. This will see the light of day in time for the autumn Starflyer 59 tour with Pedro the Lion.
Also, my pal Ethan is going to crank out the artwork for Damien Jurado : This Fabulous Century this weekend with vinyl completed just in time for his October tour.
Woven Hand : Consider the Birds vinyl is almost finished and should be back from the factory in a week or so in time for pre-orders. The cd on Sounds Familyre and the split release LP will be distributed by Secretly Canadian in November to your local record shops.
Tonight was Denison Witmer’s last show in Philadelphia as a city resident. He’s moving to Madison, WI on the weekend and will only ever be seen back here on visits or tours. Goodbye, Witmer, I’ll miss having you around so often.
