Announcing Ring Them Bells LP and Beer

Noise + beer! It’s official: we are releasing a vinyl and a beer!

We’ve been working on a special project for quite some time with Ring Them Bells from Copenhagen. In the fall of 2011, after a visit to their excellent and quite cozy pub in Copenhagen, our dear friend Mikael started a conversation about a vinyl/beer collaboration with Mikkeller, one of the premier international craft brewers. The band met with Mikkel to come up with a beer recipe that would match the sounds and feel of the record. The result is a slightly hoppy imperial porter with coffee. The beer and the record will be unveiled at a party to celebrate the new Mikkeller bar on 18 March in Copenhagen. Vinyl orders will also ship just before this party.

Ring Them Bells’ sound is influenced by noisy guitar bands such as Spacemen 3, Jesus and Mary Chaing, and Velvet Underground and the EP includes six songs. The LP features an etching done by our good friend (and teetotaler!) John Ringhofer (Half-handed Cloud) with the complete recipe for the Ring Them Bells beer. Ambitious home brewers can re-create the recipe.

Several of us met in late December and brewed up a few batches of the beer, with different hand-roasted small batch coffees. Our versions of the beer were bottled in late January and tasted in February. If the home brew version is even a shadow of the Mikkeller version, this is going to be a great beer.
